Program ERNEST: Ground-Breaking Initiative in Uplifting Communities

In a groundbreaking initiative to uplift local communities, the CPU Community Engagement and Service Learning Center has launched the Education, Resource Utilization, Nurturance, Environment, Social Welfare, and Technology Transfer (ERNEST) program in Brgy. Culasi, Ajuy, Iloilo on September 12, 2024. This program marks a significant collaborative effort among various colleges at the university, with the College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences taking the lead.

The ERNEST program is a strategic initiative established to address the community's specific needs by actively engaging stakeholders in meaningful dialogues and implementing practical solutions. To ensure the program's success and relevance, the Community Engagement and Service Learning (CESL) team, in collaboration with Ms. Era Jane Beatingo, the Officer in Charge of the Municipal Agriculture Office, undertook an extensive needs assessment.

This assessment aimed to examine and comprehend the particular difficulties that farmers, fishermen, and other marginalized groups within the community face. Through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions, the team sought to identify issues such as access to resources, market opportunities, environmental concerns, and social support systems. The insights gathered from this comprehensive analysis will inform the development of targeted interventions and resources to empower these stakeholders, enhance their livelihoods, and foster sustainable community development.

Barangay Captain Darrel Beloria and other dedicated barangay officials warmly welcomed the launch event, demonstrating their strong support for the program and its goals. Their active participation emphasizes the vital role of local governance in nurturing community development and fostering engagement among residents. As the ERNEST program unfolds, it is set to empower the residents of Barangay Culasi by offering essential resources and support tailored to their needs. This initiative promises to enhance their livelihoods and weave a more robust social fabric within the community, encouraging collaboration and resilience among its members.
