The Central Philippine University College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences (CPU-CARES) launches https://phlnativechicken.com as the official website for various outreach activities of the institution. It used to complement the Facebook Page and YouTube Channel of this college. These different electronic media platforms sprouted out of the research conducted here at CARES. Since the establishment of the CPU Research Station for Philippine Native Chicken, studies on the commercial production of the local fowl have brought technology packages that help the local raisers improve their production.
The development of the technology packages for the commercialization of Philippine native chicken has become the banner program of CARES. It conducted various studies to generate production inputs like supplemental feeds, standardized housing designs, phytomedicines, feed additives, and even the automation of some equipment. It was complemented by cultural management practices for brooding, growing, and breeding. Standardized methods for hatchery operation, dressing technique, and even marketing were established. The dissemination of these technologies is through the above-mentioned platforms and is complemented by the Philippine Native Chicken Digital TV viewed over the present social media platforms, while the podcast can be heard over Spotify Station here. The research on Philippine native chicken opens the opportunity for the development of short courses, ladderized programs, a bachelor's degree in agriculture, and even a diploma course with the same micro-specialization on commercial production of native chicken. The details of these courses can be found here.
The uniqueness of the CARES Outreach Activities is used to promote the small cottage industry in the respective areas where it is being done. This activity will be started on a wider scale together with the Iloilo City Agriculture Office, the Farmer Federation, and the Association of Barangay Captains of this city. More information about this collaboration can be found here. This activity is in partnership with the College of Pharmacy, one of the lead colleges at this university. Watch out for more developments in relation to this collaboration.
